Solar Energy Equipment: What You Need

Solar system equipmentThere are actually four pieces of solar energy equipment that you need to have in order to produce electricity. These include the solar panels, battery, charge controller, and an inverter. As a consumer and a patron of solar energy, it’s vital that you know how each solar energy equipment works and its contribution to electrical power generation. This way, you will have a clear concept of solar energy.

Solar Panels

Of all solar energy equipment, solar panels are the most significant. Without it, you will have nothing that will “trap” the energy that is being generated by the sun. Whatever energy that you produce from this solar equipment is stated in watts, which, in turn, is measured by multiplying the rated amperage with the rated voltage.

There are two ways on how you can make the solar energy equipment to work efficiently: parallel and series. With the former, positive and negative terminals are connected to their like poles. The kind of volt generated is uniform all throughout, but the amperage is measured by adding up all the solar panels that are being used. With the latter, on the other hand, opposite poles are attached to each other. The amperes don’t change, but the volt is.

Battery

Another solar energy equipment is the battery, which is designed to discharge and recharge energy countless times on a given day. It’s important that the battery you’ve chosen will be able to come up with enough amp hour. This way, you will still have electricity even if the sun isn’t shining anymore or when there are more clouds blocking the rays of the sun from hitting the panels.

Choosing the right battery also requires consideration. First of all, you need to know how much power you need so you can also decide of the storage capacity of this solar energy equipment. You also need to know the temperature of your environment, as this has a profound effect on the performance and overall condition of the battery.

Inverter and Charge Controller

Lastly, we have to more solar energy equipment called the inverter and the charge controller. The former solar energy equipment functions similarly like a modem, though an inverter converts a DC power to an AC power, which is usually used by a lot of appliances in homes. The charge controller solar energy equipment, meanwhile, regulates the charges of the battery to ensure that it gets the current it definitely needs. It is also used to avoid overcharging the batteries.
